The account begins at the top of a blue run, which he had been assured was the easy one, and which he agreed was the easy one without asking what that meant.
What follows is disputed. Two witnesses describe a controlled descent that became uncontrolled. A third describes the reverse. All three agree that the cocoa did not spill, and that at no point did he stop smiling.
He was located ninety seconds later, some distance downhill, arranging himself into a pose before anyone could reach him. He has since described the day as a success and the mountain as “dramatic.”
